helping rural veterans access the internet
Access to technology remains one of the greatest unmet challenges facing veterans living in rural communities. The Alaska Coalition for Veterans & Military Families has partnered with the Department of Alaska Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, the Mat-Su Health Foundation, the Usibelli Foundation, the Homer Foundation, and the Valdez Native Tribe to address this need. If your town or village needs a public-use laptop or increased access to the internet, please call 907-334-0873.
In 2020, the Coalition launched CoalitionConnect, an intiative to outfit VFW posts and tribal centers with laptops and access to high-speed internet. These Local Area Stations (LAS) will soon be available for veteran use in the following areas:
- VFW Post, Wasilla
- VFW Post, Talkeetna
- VFW Post, Delta Junction
- Valdez Native Tribe, Valdez
how to check out a laptop
Veterans needing to use a computer for the purposes of employment seeking, medical and behavioral health appointments, or school, may use a laptop at their local VFW or tribal center by calling their nearest facility and scheduling an appointment. To register, you must present the post with a military ID, VA card, or VFW card. You will need to call 907-334-0873 to set up your username and password.
